DAI to Share Water and Sanitation Experience at UNC Water and Health Conference

Members of DAI’s Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) team will participate in the University of North Carolina (UNC), Chapel Hill’s 2019 Water and Health Conference: Where Science Meets Policy on October 7–11. DAI experts will share learning from our global work to engage with sector partners in the provision of equitable and sustainable water and sanitation services to all segments of society.

The Kenya Integrated Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (KIWASH) project, funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), Deputy Chief of Party Japheth Mbuvi will present on strengthening financial and operational performance of decentralized utilities. Anahit Gevorgyan, Deputy Chief of Party of the Water for Africa through Leadership and Institutional Support (WALIS) project, funded by USAID, will present on improving evidence-based decision-making and participate in a panel on data and decisions convened by WaterAid. In a session on inclusive sanitation, panelists from USAID will discuss the Indonesia Urban Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Plus (IUWASH+) approach to identifying and reaching the poorest people.

Heather Skilling and Nabil Chemaly, both DAI WASH specialists, will present posters on our work to formalize, professionalize, and regulate private water providers in Mozambique as part of the recognized service landscape and our partnerships between water establishments and schools to help cultivate youth as partners toward water security in Lebanon.

Skilling will also participate in a lunch session “Spotlight on careers in WASH” on October 10.
