Trade Forward Southern Africa (TFSA) was a program designed to alleviate poverty across the Southern African Customs Union and Mozambique (SACU+M) by increasing the scale and quality of trade within the union as well as with the United Kingdom.
The program helped businesses meet the standards required for exporting to regional and international markets. It worked primarily with and through business support organisations, such as export promotion agencies and chambers of commerce, to provide targeted support to various sectors. It focused on providing technical cooperation to export and near-export businesses, particularly female-owned entrepreneurs and sectors in which a greater proportion of women are employed.
TFSA’s achievements include handing over the TFSA Trade Hub and School of Export (SoE) to a sustainable legacy partner. The Hub provides a digital library of export resources that have been crucial in helping small firms begin their export journey—since 2021, 72,682 users have visited the site. The SoE learning management system offers 28 modules to help SMEs build capacity to export, grow revenue, and create jobs. Over two years, 3,623 registered users completed 2,729 courses.
