Ethiopia—Responsible and Innovative Land Administration Project II (REILA II)

Client: Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Duration: 2017-2021

Region: Sub-Saharan Africa

Country: Ethiopia

Solutions: Economic Growth

Ethiopia’s national strategic investment framework seeks to address the interconnected problems of poverty, vulnerability, and land degradation in rural communities by enhancing the country’s land administration system. Reforming land management and certification practices will accelerate the registration of rural parcels and improve land tenure security, encouraging farmers to invest in their land and leading to increased agricultural productivity.

To advance these critical improvements, DAI is supporting NIRAS in implementing the Responsible and Innovative Land Administration Project II (REILA II), funded by the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The project supports Ethiopia’s Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources in increasing land tenure security for farmers, building the capacity of land management officials, and growing the number of skilled personnel working in land administration. By promoting sustainable land management policies and practices, REILA II is helping improve the economic well-being of rural Ethiopians as well as combating land degradation resulting from changes to the climate.
