Daniel Clarke is the Director of the Centre for Disaster Protection, where he leads the mission to prevent disasters from devastating lives and economies. With a strong foundation as an actuary and economist, Daniel brings over 20 years of experience developing innovative risk finance solutions. He has collaborated with more than 40 developing country governments, multilateral institutions, and the private sector to design and implement financial strategies that improve disaster preparedness and resilience.

Daniel’s work has significantly influenced global policy and practice in disaster risk financing. His publication, Dull Disasters? How Planning Ahead Will Make a Difference, co-authored with Stefan Dercon, is considered a seminal work in the field. He holds a first-class degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from Cambridge University and a D.Phil. in Economics from the University of Oxford, where his dissertation focused on insurance design for developing countries. Daniel is also a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries.

Daniel’s work continues to shape the global landscape of disaster risk finance, driving forward solutions and advocating for effective, equitable strategies that save lives and protect economies.
