Dr. Andrew McKenzie has more than 30 years of experience in capacity building and management of health systems and services, working in the public sector, the private sector, in universities, and in nongovernmental organisations. He provides support to the Health Pooled Fund programme in South Sudan and is involved in the global evaluation of UNICEF’s health systems strengthening policy. Prior to 2002, he worked in rural health care as a doctor and was attached to the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa as a senior researcher. Following South Africa’s democratic transition, he became a regional director for health managing health and welfare services for more than 2 million people.

Andrew has provided technical assistance for a number of programmes in Lesotho, Nigeria, South Africa, and South Sudan. He has extensive experience in capacity building and facilitation and an excellent understanding of managing and evaluating health systems and services, health sector reform, and district development in sub-Saharan Africa. He served as a member of the Technical Review Panel of the Global Fund and is a Board member of the Health Information Systems Programme.
