The Global Centre on Biodiversity for Climate (GCBC) this week announced the award of 12 new research projects through its third Research Grant Competition (RGC3), representing a total investment of £10 million.
The 12 new projects will support researchers, communities, policy makers, and practitioners across Sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean to develop and test solutions that deliver benefits for people, nature, and climate.
Whether strengthening sustainable cattle production in South Africa or restoring mangrove ecosystems in Malaysia, the projects will generate evidence on how biodiversity can underpin resilient livelihoods, sustainable economic development, and climate adaptation in vulnerable regions.
Funded by the U.K. Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and managed in partnership with DAI, GCBC works to unlock the potential of nature to deliver climate resilience and improve livelihoods.
Last year’s round of investments (RGC2) funded 18 projects. This year’s awardees include the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds and the Universities of Coventry, Greenwich, Leeds, and Manchester (all United Kingdom); Bioversity International (Italy); the International Centre for Research in Agroforestry (Kenya); Sokoine University of Agriculture (Tanzania); Instituto Superior de Economia e Gestão (Portugal); the Audubon Society (United States); and the University of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences (Nigeria).
