DAI and EPHI to Collaborate on Health Data Management Center in Ethiopia

October 16, 2018

DAI Global Health and the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) under which the parties will collaborate to establish a secure, reliable, and technologically advanced National Data Management Center for Health.

The EPHI is an autonomous federal government office accountable to Ethiopia’s Federal Minister of Health. The MoU was signed in Addis Ababa on October 12 by EPHI Deputy Director General Dr. Tsigereda Kifle (pictured below at left) and DAI Global Health President Chris LeGrand. “We are honored to partner with EPHI on this important project,” said LeGrand. “Both parties recognize that good data, sound data management, and insightful data analytics are central to modern health systems and positive health outcomes. We have much to learn from EPHI and we’re looking forward to sharing what we have learned from our experience in this arena.”

Under the terms of the MOU, DAI Global Health will provide technical support, review key materials, and share knowledge, standards, recommendations, and best practices gleaned from the firm’s extensive experience establishing data management centers in Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, and elsewhere.

EPHI was formed through the merger of the National Research Institute of Health, the Ethiopian Nutrition Institute, and the Department of Traditional Medicine in the Ministry of Health. It focuses on supporting health research and information dissemination; detecting, preventing, and preparing for public health risks; and building the capacity of the nation’s health and food science laboratories.
