Mexico - Agricultural and Rural Bank Officer Training Program
Client: United States Trade and Development Agency (Donor) & Financiera Rural
Project Completed (2008)

Developing a professional rural bank and credit officer training program for Financiera Rural

Through a USTDA grant, DAI is creating and implementing a rural bank and credit officer training program to give Financiera Rural staff a solid foundation in basic and advanced rural and agricultural loan and credit operations, and to give the institution the in-house expertise it needs to meet its future demands for new officer training. The program has clear training and impact objectives—as well as built-in tools for assessing the impact of the training on both skill development and institutional performance—and makes extensive use of participant exercises to reinforce the skills learned in the training sessions.

The interactive multimedia training and testing program is designed to be used as part of a trainer-led program or for independent study to reinforce knowledge and skills learned during the initial training. In addition to reproductions of the training sessions, these materials will contain extensive interactive self-testing and practice exercises. The DAI team will ensure that Financiera Rural has the capacity to deliver the courses in the future by building the skills of the institution’s in-house trainers.

The basic and advanced training modules that DAI is preparing for the program include the following:

  • Basic Credit Analysis
  • Financiera Rural Credit Policies and Procedures
  • BankExec International Bank Simulation
  • Advanced Credit Analysis
  • Microcredit
  • Rural Financial Markets, Institutions, and Clients
  • Elements of Rural Business Development
  • Agricultural Concepts
  • Managing Problem Loans
  • Systemic Risk Analysis and Management
  • Evaluating and Financing Rural Financial Institutions
